Naceva Village

Naceva is situated on the coast, just like all the 9 villages on Beqa Island, and is therefore basically reached on the waterway. In December 2009 the village was severely damaged by a hurricane. Many buildings – particularly the school – have been destroyed, reconstruction progresses slowly.

Naceva is located in the South of the island, approximately 240 people are living there, including the so-called Settlement Naiseuseu located to the west of the village with 120 inhabitants. The children of both settlements attend the Uluinakorovatu Primary School.

The unemployment rate is high. The people make a living from fishing and from market gardening, some have a job in a hotel, others are retired magistrates. During the last two years all magistrates have been sent to retirement “to give way to the youth”.
